Top employers named at HR Leadership Awards 2009
ING Australia, Pacific Hydro and Main Roads Western Australia have been
named as Australia's top employers of choice at this year's Australian HR
Leadership Awards.
Held at a glittering ceremony on Thursday 22 October, the awards also
recognised leading companies such as IBM, Optus, Allens Arthur Robinson and
Sydney Water for their outstanding HR strategies and teams.
The awards, which recognise excellence across 16 categories of HR, were
organised by HR Leader magazine and sponsored by Aon Consulting.
ING Australia took out the Mastertek Award for Employer of Choice (more than
1000 employees), with the judges commenting that ING shined due to its
strategies in setting people up for success as its key to ensuring engaged,
committed and stimulated staff..
Pacific Hydro won the Frontier Software Award for Employer of Choice (fewer
than 1000 employees), and Main Roads Western Australia scooped the SageCo
Award for Employer of Choice (public sector).
On an individual level, Michael Rose, chief executive partner at Allens
Arthur Robinson, took out the Neller HR Champion (CEO) Award for
demonstrating clear evidence for not just assisting in the formation of the
people strategy and advocating it, but also as somebody who spent time
walking the floor, engaging people at all levels and showing a genuine
interest in employees as a group and individually.
Michael Sommerton from Inchcape won the HR Partners Award for Best HR
Leader, due to his efforts in showing innovation and leadership, and for
